Stan Laurel, born Arthur Stanley Jefferson in England, came to the U.S. in 1912 with a comedy troupe in which he performed. A
Harlem, GA native Oliver Hardy began his career as a singer. He and his wife moved to Los Angeles. He too found work with Hal Roach Studios, where Roach himself got the notion to put the two together. The chemistry was immediately apparent and the duo went on to become comedy icons.
